United Caring Services offers twenty-one (21) low income, studio apartments which are located on the third and fourth floors of our main facility at 324 NW 6th Street. These apartments are available for $544/mo with utilities (electricity, water, gas) included to help stabilize and assist men and women in leaving and/or preventing their homeless situation. Each apartment has a kitchen, bathroom, and a bedroom and living area.
UCS provides a residential setting with on site supportive services through our other programming, encouragement, connection to local resources, and case management as needed.
Tenants’ rent may be eligible for subsidy support through Section 8 funding provided by the Evansville Housing Authority and/or Rapid Rehousing or Permanent Supportive Housing funding through Aurora. Applicants must meet strict guidelines prior to residency and show an audibility and willingness to adhere to the parameters of the lease.
Tenants are encouraged to work closely with a Case Manager to ensure their stay is successful in preventing or ending their homelessness. Tenants are encouraged to set goals and develop an Action Plan that will allow them to achieve those goals and setting new ones. Opportunities to receive guidance on Personal Finance and Budgeting, Basic Computer Skills, Communication Skills, and Healthy Cooking on a Budget may be available through UCS community partners. Tenants will also have access to counseling and classes that address relational issues, coping skills, assertiveness, anger management, substance use, stress management and spirituality/meditation.
We hope that our tenants, who have the opportunity to stabilize their lives in these apartments, receive the techniques and disciplines they need to renew life sustaining personal relationships, build better communities, be successful in obtaining and keeping gainful, full-time employment and potentially securing further permanent housing.
Our vacancies are quickly filled through our partnership with other agencies, like Aurora or ECHO Community Health, so please call to get on the ‘waiting list’ and to ensure you meet qualifications.
