United Caring Services Expands Ruth’s House Hours
EVANSVILLE – United Caring Services (UCS) expanded its weekend hours at Ruth’s House and is once again offering women’s medical respite services thanks to the support of the Buck Foundation, Cecil A. and Mabel Lene Hamman Foundation, Koch Foundation, Methodist Temple and the Vanderburgh Medical Alliance. Both of these programs are unique community services that support women experiencing homelessness and other vulnerabilities helping them find safety, shelter, stability, compassion, dignity, better health outcomes and housing in 2019.
United Caring Services offers the only low barrier shelter for single women, Ruth’s House, and the only medical respite services in Evansville and the tri-state area. Ruth’s House assisted 183 women in 2018 and seeks to serve more women thanks to this expansion. Medical respite care is for homeless persons who are too ill or frail to recover from a physical illness or injury on the streets but are not ill enough to be in a hospital. It is short-term residential care that allows homeless individuals the opportunity to rest in a safe environment while accessing medical care and other supportive services. We are fortunate to have medical respite services in our community.
Just in time for the coldest temperatures of the season, Ruth’s House is now open during the day on Saturday and Sunday for current guests to stay in from the weather, relax when not at work, build community and improve their lives. New intakes will still occur at 5:00 pm every day of the week. Women’s medical respite services will operate seven days a week from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm with daily night shelter hours staying the same. For more information, visit www.unitedcaringservices.org under “HOW WE HELP.” To schedule a tour, donate needed items, or volunteer to serve call (812) 422-0297.
United Caring Services thankfully welcomes monetary donations to support its mission to benefit our community. An Emergency Solutions Grant, provided through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, yearly support by our Pigeon Township Trustee, and the generous donations from private individuals and local organizations make the services at Ruth’s House possible. Ruth’s House is named in honor of Rev. Ruth Milgate. #EisforEveryone
